Why pet cats are fixed.
All pet cats are fixed because of several important reasons. First, it is a big mistake to do casual breeding. A male cat makes a wonderful pet up until about 6 to 9 months and at that time, he will begin to spray. You cannot train a male cat not to spray. It is not the same as urination. He will interpret your acts as competng male aggression and spray all the more. After he begins to spray, fixing him will not stop it. Whole male toms are not house animals and need a specially designed roomy facilities which can be disinfected and they need company. It is very sad to realize the number of boy cats who wind up in shelters because of ignorance and irresponsibility.

Female cats make wonderful pets up until 6 to 10 months and then will begin to cycle. Their heats are very intense and can last for weeks during which time they will lose condition, yowl constantly and pitifully, and they may spray all over the house. A female cat who is not spayed and not bred can contract uterine infections which can become serious.

Breeding is not a casual thing, but a professional endeavor. There are millions of unwanted cats in shelters because of pet mills and back yard breeders, neither of which care about the welfare of their animals or the realities of genetics and animal husbandry. Unless you are a licensed, registered, serious, professional breeder, who has purchased stock from knowlegable sources and obtained breeding contracts for your anmals, FIX ALL your animals.

When you place a deposit for a Crack O' Noon Kitten, you are confirming that you understand and agree to the Kitten clauses below.
We will refund or replace a kitten which is shown to have a life-threatening or chronic health problem resulting from something it picked up here. This is a 30 day guarantee. Our kittens are also guaranteed for four years against genetic hcm or pkd. To obtain a refund or replacement kitten, a veterinary report is required.

We also guarantee that our kittens will have a great temperament and will use a litter box or you an bring them back for a refund or replacement.

Our kittens receive age appropriate shots, vet check, and worming. All pet kittens are fixed unless you purchase a breeding quality cat with a breeding contract.
Kittens purchased from us may not be declawed.
Declawing is the removal of part of the kittens toes and is permanent and cruel. Ragdolls are easily trainable.
Ragdolls may not be allowed outside. They are very gentle, will not fight, and will often walk right up to strange animals.

Declawing and/or allowing the cat outdoors voids the health guarantee.
Raising Ragdolls
Each year we talk to many who wish to become involved with the Ragdoll breed. Raising animals is a professional endeavor. If you are serious about raising the best Ragdolls, it is like starting a business venture and it will require capital. Begin by taking your time and visiting sites all over the internet. Read articles, look at photos, go to shows, and get an idea of what the best Ragdolls look like. You cannot breed Ragdolls unless you purchase cats intended for breeding along with breeding rights. The papers of these cats will specifically allow for you to register and raise kittens from them. I researched for years before buying the first Crack O' Noon pair. I spent $4000 purchasing them and shipping them here and they did not breed and I did not get a refund...this is not as easy as it may look.

When you are ready to launch a cattery, register a cattery name with TICA and CFA. Join RFCI, and RI, at least. Research your state's requirements for animal breeders and get advice from breeders in your state about their experience with dealing with your state. Not all states and cities allow animal breeding. If possible, obtain a state license. Then research and build a facility according to your state requirements. Start with a facility for your male. Do not plan on having him in the house. 95 percent of Ragdoll males will spray and after 6 to 8 months will not be house animals. Research what you will need to house your females. They too may spray when in heat.

The other side of raising Ragdolls which takes more time than actually raising them, is marketing. You need to find wonderful solid homes for all your babies. Never have kittens unless you have a demand. Launch a site, post photos of your breeders way ahead of time so that when kittens actually arrive, many will be waiting for them. Be prepared to spend some time photographing, updating your site, talking to people and handling the organizing of your deposits and payments. Start and maintain a detailed database of your cattery and your contacts. Do not breed a second litter until you have placed the first litter into great homes. Research and find out how to put a kitten contract together. Be ready to stand behind your babies and offer good guarantees.

I cannot stress enough how abbreviated this artcle is. It is meant to show you part of the basic scope of getting involved with animals on a professional level - which is the only way to get involved. We don't believe in casual breeding, backyard breeding, or pet mills. You will need a mentor who will walk you through many more details. There will be joys and heartbreaks. Most of the heartbreaks are in the beginning as you establish your lines. You will meet some of the best and worst people you ever imagined, and it will take years to find yourself a community of wonderful solid people who you can work with around the country. We have gone through much since we started but we love it, and if you are stubborn, stalwart, passionate, and dedicated, you'll love it too.
